Prominent entertainers Baba Sadiq, who happens to be the former CEO of 3Music Awards, and actress Ebi Bright find themselves at the center of a political storm following a High Court ruling that has cast uncertainty over the parliamentary results in the Okaikwei Central and Tema Central constituencies respectively.

Both Sadiq and Ebi Bright, who are members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), were actively involved in the campaign for the constituency and were very clear that they had won those seats following declaration at the constituency collation centers.

However after some earlier legal tussle, the high court today, January 4, 2025, presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong, granted an application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), compelling the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and declare the results of two outstanding polling stations in Tema Central and 31 others in Okaikwei Central.

The Court further instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the necessary security for the EC to carry out this directive.

Justice Agyapong’s ruling highlighted critical irregularities, including the EC’s failure to collate results from all polling stations in the constituency and the fact that the initial declaration was made by someone who was not the official returning officer.

The judge also noted that the EC had failed to act despite being formally requested to address the issue.

What this means is that if the other polin stations are declared for their opponents in the NPP, these two will not be in the ninth parliament as the anticipated.

It should be noted that already, the NDC has already filed an appeal against the High Court’s ruling, maintaining that the results declared earlier were legitimate and reflective of the will of the people.

The party’s legal team argues that the ongoing directives undermine the democratic process and could create further unrest in the constituency.
