An Australian woman has fallen 80metres to her death from a famous rock formation that looks like a giant T-Rex dinosaur on the island of Nusa Penida in Bali, Indonesia.

Cronin Brianna Lani, 30, was walking along a steep and narrow route at Kelingking Beach in Bali’s Nusa Penida District on the morning of Saturday, September 12, when tragedy struck.

The incident was first reported by a resident of Kelingking Village at approximately 9.50am local time.

‘Based on information from the scene, the victim is believed to have fallen at 9am,’ Nusa Penida Search and Rescue agency coordinator Cakra Negara said.

‘We immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene and coordinated with other SAR personnel to carry out the evacuation operation.

‘At the time, she was attempting to find her own route toward the edge of the cliff before slipping and falling into the ravine.’

The initial plan to evacuate Lani by sea had to be cancelled due to relatively high waves along the shoreline – she then had to be carried up the stairs at Kelingking Beach.

It was a joint effort to recover the body led by the Search and Rescue Agency team, the Indonesian navy, police, lifeguards, and locals

The steep and narrow nature of the route and limited access made the evacuation considerably more difficult for the rescue team, taking around 1.5 hours in total.

‘When the victim was found, she had suffered several fractures to different parts of her body,’ Negara added.

‘We then secured her onto a stretcher to facilitate the evacuation process… the victim was evacuated to Griya Penida (Medical) Clinic.’

The search and rescue operation was jointly held by the Search and Rescue Agency team, the Indonesian navy, police, lifeguards, and locals.
