A Sydney father has been applauded as a ‘genius’ by parents after he used Airtasker to save his child’s birthday.
A hurried ad posted to the odd-jobs site overnight offered $50 for someone to mind a picnic table in Alison Park, Randwick, for two hours on Sunday morning.
The worried dad wanted to ensure his child and their guests would have access to the sole table in the leafy eastern suburbs park.
‘Planning a kids’ birthday party at Alison Park,’ Matt wrote.
‘We need someone to mind the only picnic table in the park (this cannot be reserved through the council).
‘So essentially, we need someone to sit at the table and reserve the spot for two hours from 7am to 9am.’
He made sure to include directions to the table and shelter, handily located nearby to the playground.
The ad was later shared on an eastern suburbs community page on Facebook.

Some Aussies criticised the father’s efforts.
‘It’s unfair, you can’t reserve public spaces,’ one wrote.
‘First come, first serve,’ a second said.
One viewer complained $50 was too ‘cheap’ for the task.
However, others said they wished they’d come up with the idea.
‘I don’t see any issue with this. It’s a great idea, and the guy is paying for it,’ one said.
‘Genius! An easy way to earn cash!’ a second wrote.
Another shared the age-old maxim, ‘work smarter, not harder’.
