Popular Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has described August as a profoundly sad month for Ghana, following the loss of several major figures in quick succession.

The artiste shared his grief during the one-week observation ceremony for the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025.

Lumba’s death was soon overshadowed by the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, that claimed the lives of eight political and military figures, including two ministers.

“This month of August was quite a month,” Kwabena Kwabena said in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie.

“He (Daddy Lumba) died at the latter part of July, and the helicopter crash happened early in August, so within that window. It has been a sad moment for Ghana.”

He added, “We can only pray that the good Lord will take us through these times and help us heal from all these painful moments.”

Kwabena Kwabena also took time to honor the memory of Daddy Lumba, recalling the personal mentorship and warmth he received from the iconic musician.

“My fondest memories of Daddy Lumba will always be how warm he was whenever I visited him, and the wonderful moments of advice, teaching, and encouragement we shared,” he noted. “It was so clear from his style that he was destined to be different.”

The back-to-back tragedies have left the nation and the entertainment industry in deep mourning, as Ghanaians reflect on the immense contributions of both figures.
