The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has directed the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and security agencies to take immediate action against the unauthorized sale of mining explosives.

    Background:

The directive follows a deadly explosion at a shop selling mining explosives in Odumase, near Konongo, which resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries.

The minister described the incident as a result of lawlessness, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement of regulations.

    Key Actions Ordered:

Investigations by the BNI, National Security, Police CID, and mining regulators into illegal explosive sales, particularly in mining communities.

Identification and prosecution of individuals involved in unauthorized explosive sales.

Enforcement of licensing regulations to ensure only certified dealers handle explosives.

Dr. Amoakohene assured the public that authorities would take all necessary measures to prevent future tragedies.
