Dr. Frank Amoakohene is the Ashanti Regional Minister

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has paid a visit to the family of the late Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, in a gesture of solidarity and respect.

During the visit, he conveyed condolences and support for the bereaved family from President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Amoakohene’s visit follows the tragic death of the passionate Asante Kotoko fan, after he was fatally stabbed during the club’s clash against Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

What began as an on-field altercation among players escalated into the stands, leading to the horrific incident.

His passing has sent shockwaves through the football community, with many fans demanding justice.

In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the Ghana Premier League, while Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have petitioned the GFA, calling for reforms to curb hooliganism in the sport.

Addressing the bereaved family, the Ashanti Regional Minister acknowledged the gravity of the tragedy and urged unity, hoping that Nana Pooley’s death would lead to positive changes.

“Although this is a great tragedy that has befallen us, we must give thanks to God, as the Bible teaches. All we can do now is stay united and find comfort in each other. The president acknowledges Nana Pooley’s undeniable love for Ghanaian football and Asante Kotoko, but sadly, it did not bring the good news we had hoped for.

“We must learn from this so that whenever we mention his name, it inspires positive change for Asanteman, Asante Kotoko, and Ghana,” he said.

Dr. Amoakohene also assured the family of the government’s continued support, disclosing that President Mahama is committed to assisting them in times of need.

“We understand your pain, but we urge you to stay strong. The president has assured that if the family ever requires support from the government, do not hesitate to reach out, and we will do our best to assist,” he added.
