The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong condemnation of comments made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, describing his remarks as divisive, offensive and a betrayal of the NPP’s founding values.
In a strongly worded statement signed by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Secretary of the Caucus, the Ashanti MPs said they were “deeply disturbed” by utterances attributed to Asante Boateng, suggesting that some individuals within the party are descendants of slaves and therefore not entitled to leadership positions.
“These remarks are deeply offensive and run contrary to the spirit of unity, respect and equality that the NPP stands for,” the Caucus stated.
According to the statement, the NPP has always prided itself on merit, loyalty, and service and not tribal or ancestral background and will not tolerate any rhetoric that undermines the party’s cohesion.
“The NPP was built on the principles of freedom, equality of opportunity, and inclusivity. The party rewards hard work and dedication without regard to tribe, lineage, or religion,” the statement emphasised.

The Ashanti NPP Caucus, representing the region widely regarded as the stronghold of the party, warned that attempts to introduce ethnocentric narratives into party politics threaten the very unity that has sustained the NPP over the years.
“Such reckless and unfortunate statements only serve to divide our ranks and weaken the bond that has made the NPP the most formidable political organization in Ghana’s Fourth Republic,” the statement added.
The Caucus urged all members, particularly those in leadership positions, to exercise restraint and decorum in their public utterances.
It further reminded them that mature political traditions act swiftly against comments that inflame ethnic or religious sentiments.
Reaffirming its commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence, the Ashanti NPP Parliamentary Caucus called on party members to stay focused on strengthening the NPP and contributing to Ghana’s development.
“Our focus must remain on building a stronger NPP and advancing the collective progress of our nation,” the statement concluded.
