Asante Kotoko have climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) standings after securing a hard-fought victory against Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Having qualified for the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Asante Kotoko remain firmly on track for a potential domestic double. Head coach Prosper Ogum assembled a strong squad as they continued their quest for glory.

The match was closely contested, with few clear chances for either side, as both teams went into halftime goalless. Recognising the importance of a win, Ogum made key substitutions to push for all three points.

Despite their efforts, Asante Kotoko struggled to break down Berekum Chelsea’s solid defense until the 79th minute. A well-executed one-two from a corner found Daniel Adjetey at the edge of the box, where he unleashed a shot that soared past goalkeeper Oben Sekyere, giving Asante Kotoko the lead.

The team held firm during the final eleven minutes to secure the victory, which propelled them to the top of the standings with 45 points from 24 games.

They now sit one point ahead of second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, edging ahead in the race for the title.
