Asamoah Gyan headlined Ghana and Africa’s presence as global sportswear giant PUMA unveiled the Black Stars’ new kit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in New York.

The former Black Stars captain took center stage at the high-profile launch held at Domino Square in New York City, symbolizing Ghana’s rich football heritage and Africa’s growing influence on the global game. Gyan, Africa’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, was one of the standout figures at the event, representing both nation and continent.

The unveiling formed part of a wider global showcase involving 10 other countries, but Gyan’s presence ensured Ghana remained a focal point throughout. PUMA described the event as a celebration of football culture, blending sport with music, food, and community engagement.

In a break from tradition, the kits were first worn by local players in a 4v4 street football tournament, highlighting grassroots connections. Ghana joined fellow African nations Morocco, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt as part of PUMA’s strong continental representation.

Football icons Ricardo Quaresma and El Hadji Diouf also attended, while Ghanaian artiste Black Sherif delivered a live performance.

PUMA noted that nearly a quarter of teams at the World Cup will wear its kits, underlining its commitment to Africa and its expanding role in global football.
