Former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has charged Ghanaians to support the incoming NDC government after a peaceful election.

The National Democratic Congress, the opposition political party, has been declared the winner of the 2024 election after a landslide victory over the ruling New Patriotic Party.

John Dramani Mahama returns to office as president after eight years in opposition.

Gyan, who was sharing his thoughts on social media after the election, advised Ghanaians to change their attitude while also urging them to support Mahama to succeed.

“You know, when there is an issue, I will share my thoughts. Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power, let’s support them. When you go and buy things at GHC 50 and you sell them at GHC 1000, the country will go through hardship,” he said.

“Ghana has decided, Let’s put party politics aside, and if your party has won, focus on government, and for us as citizens, we will also support,” he added.

“We also have to change our attitudes, and we have to support the new government. Let’s congratulate the new government, and that is my message.”

Meanwhile, Gyan withdrew from the Bawumia manifesto team to focus on his philanthropic work before the election, stating it was unfair to be involved in politics.

The former Ghana striker holds the record as the country’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals from 109 games.
