Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Spanish manager Xabi Alonso following the club’s poor run of form.
According to Spanish media outlet Diario AS, the club has spoken with the former Real Madrid coach’s entourage to inquire about his availability should the opportunity arise for him to take over as head coach.

Reports indicate that the feedback was positive, with suggestions that Alonso would be open to the role if given the chance.
This development comes as pressure mounts on Dutch coach Arne Slot, who has struggled to maintain consistency and replicate the success of last season.
The recent dramatic 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League, his seventh loss of the campaign, did not sit well with the club’s hierarchy, who are increasingly concerned about the team’s direction.
Slot led Liverpool to the 2024/2025 Premier League title after succeeding legendary coach Jürgen Klopp, but he has since failed to meet expectations by producing similar performances or winning silverware, despite significant financial investment to strengthen the squad.
The Reds are reportedly preparing contingency plans for a possible managerial change if results do not improve, with the team currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table on 36 points.
Alonso, a Liverpool legend, remains highly rated by the club despite his relatively short spell at Real Madrid and his unexpected departure.
Whether Arne Slot will be sacked at the end of the season or earlier remains to be seen.
