Nii Lante Vanderpuye, former MP for Odododiodio constituency

Ahlaji Karim Grusah, the owner of King Faisal, has recommended former Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, to President John Mahama as the ideal candidate to lead the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

During his campaign tours, President Mahama promised to reform sports by implementing a comprehensive National Sports Policy aimed at restoring Ghana’s reputation as a sporting nation.

This policy focuses on various areas, including infrastructure development, talent cultivation, governance, administration, and promoting inclusivity alongside sports-driven economic and social development.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Grusah expressed confidence in Vanderpuye’s expertise and described him as the perfect candidate to spearhead these developments.

“Nii Lante Vanderpuye has already proven his capabilities, so I’m puzzled about what the NDC is waiting for. I recall that even under the NPP, former President Kufuor considered appointing him as Sports Minister, but internal party unrest prevented it,” Grusah stated.

“Given his track record, I firmly believe Vanderpuye is the right person to revitalize Ghana’s football scene. His experience working with Liberty Professionals and Hearts of Oak, coupled with his background as a sports journalist, make him the ideal candidate. Since the NDC have returned to power, they should bring him back on board to address Ghana’s football challenges,” he added.

With President Mahama yet to appoint a Sports Minister, notable names such as Nii Lante Vanderpuye, former Asante Kotoko CEO Herbert Mensah, and Kofi Adams, the Buem Constituency Member of Parliament, are being mentioned as potential candidates to take over from the former Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif.
