Apam SHS to be upgraded from Category B to A school – Education Minister

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced plans to upgrade Apam Senior High School in the Central Region from a Category B to a Category A institution.

This forms part of the government’s broader efforts to expand access to quality secondary education and improve infrastructure and learning conditions in selected Senior High Schools across the country.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of Great Apam Senior High School, Mr Iddrisu said the school would benefit from a range of infrastructure and development interventions under the Transformative Secondary Education for Access, Results and Relevance for Jobs (STARR-J) project.

He said the planned upgrade would be supported by infrastructure expansion and renovation works aimed at improving facilities and creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The Minister also announced that the government would work towards completing abandoned GETFund projects at the school.

According to him, completing the projects would provide the school with the infrastructure and facilities needed to support effective teaching and learning.

Mr Iddrisu further announced plans to provide Great Apam Senior High School with a school bus to help address the institution’s transportation needs.

He said the various interventions were part of the government’s wider strategy to improve infrastructure in selected Senior High Schools, increase access to secondary education and provide students with better learning environments.

The STARR-J project is expected to support the expansion and improvement of secondary education infrastructure while contributing to better learning outcomes and creating more opportunities for young people.

Mr Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing schools with the infrastructure, resources and support required to deliver quality education and adequately prepare Ghanaian students for the future.
