From Tony Yeboah, Sulley Muntari, and Michael Essien to Asamoah Gyan, many Ghanaian players have left their mark on the Premier League. All these players have in their own ways made significant contributions to their various teams.

However, among these incredible careers, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has named Michael Essien as the greatest Ghanaian to play in the Premier League.

Essien’s time at Chelsea saw him win multiple titles, including the Champions League in 2012, whereas Gyan hit the ground running in his first season at Sunderland.

His goal-scoring prowess and unique celebration made him a fans’ favourite at the Stadium of Light. But for Semenyo, Essien stands tall.

When asked to pick his all-time great Ghanaian Premier League player during an interview with Bleacher Report, Semenyo, while revealing his admiration for Gyan, chose Essien.

“Has to be Michael Essien. I want to say Asamoah Gyan for what he’s done at Sunderland, but Michael Essien is the GOAT,” Semenyo said.

Essien enjoyed a storied Premier League career with Chelsea. The midfielder played 168 times in the league, scoring 17 times and assisting 10 times. He also won the Premier League title twice, in 2006 and 2010.
