Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has penned a message of gratitude to fans of AFC Bournemouth following their incredible show of support after he suffered an episode of racist abuse during their opening game against Liverpool.

The Cherries, during their league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, stood up to applaud the striker in the 24th minute as a form of support for their number 24.

A man was arrested and later granted bail for his action toward the Ghana international. He has also been banned from all match venues in England.

Meanwhile, Smeneyo, who netted twice in the 4-2 defeat to Liverpool, had provided the assist for the winner against Wolves early in the match.

At the end of the game, Semenyo posted on social media thanking the fans while also praising the team for the victory at Vitality Park.

He wrote: “Cherries fans ! Thank you for your support in the 24th minute God bless you all but good win and important 3 points ! Good to be back at the vitality again.”

The 25-year-old has been in blistering form for Bournemouth and was reported to be on the radar of several clubs in the summer transfer window.

But he decided to sign a new long term deal that will now keep him at the club until 2030.
