The Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has urged the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, to brief Parliament on the escalating cost of living in the country.

He made the call during his contribution to the presentation of the Business Statement for the ensuing week by the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Speaking in Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh highlighted the sharp increase in the prices of essential commodities.

“Cost of living has gone through the roof. Prices of items, including yam, gari, tomatoes, and others, have all gone through the roof stressing the urgent need for government intervention,” he said.

He called on Parliament to schedule a session for the finance minister to update legislators on measures being taken to curb inflation.

“I think we should program the finance minister to come and brief the House on the measures taken to curb this, emphasising the importance of timely action to address public concerns,” he stated.

He noted that in previous engagements, Dr Forson had been active in discussing economic matters directly with market stakeholders.

“The last time before he presented the budget statement, he was all over the place talking to Makola market women. Now is the time he should come and brief us,” he added.

The Minority Chief Whip’s remarks come amid growing public anxiety over rising food and commodity prices, as Parliament prepares for a busy week of business and policy discussions.

The MPs are expected to debate key economic issues and may consider scheduling the finance minister’s briefing in response to the concerns raised.
