Andre Onana is the goalkeeper of Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly at risk of losing his starting spot ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Newcastle on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Onana endured a difficult outing in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Lyon on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and multiple reports suggest it might cost him his starting role when the Red Devils face Newcastle.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper made errors leading to both of Lyon’s goals. First, he failed to deal with a cross that ended up in the net, and later he spilled a shot, gifting Lyon the equalizer late in the game after goals from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee seemed to have secured United a valuable first-leg lead.

Although manager Rúben Amorim publicly backed Onana after the draw in Lyon, reports from the Daily Mail now claim the Portuguese manager is considering the option of resting his goalkeeper for Sunday’s trip to Newcastle.

If Onana is dropped, Altay Bayindir is expected to step in. However, the 26-year-old Turkish international is yet to feature in a Premier League game for United, with all seven of his appearances coming in other competitions.
