A former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has blamed the struggles of football in the country on investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

He explained that the renowned journalist’s investigative piece, ‘Number 12: When Greed and Corruption Become the Norm’, which led to the dissolution of the previous GFA administration led by Kwesi Nyantakyi, has done more harm than good to the nation.

The former spokesperson for the GFA mentioned that since the Nyantakyi-led administration left office, the performances of the various national teams have declined drastically, which does not augur well.

In an interview with GhOne TV, Sannie Daara stated that Anas’ investigative piece was meant to deceive the public and tarnish their image with corruption allegations.

“Anas’ Number 12 exposé was a complete ruse and has had negative effects on Ghana football,” he said.

Anas’ documentary, released in June 2018, captured then Ghana Football Association boss Kwesi Nyantakyi and other officials supposedly engaging in various fraudulent activities.

The screening attracted a large audience, with many taking to social media to share their experiences of the many ‘unpalatable scenes’ of the documentary.

Nyantakyi’s alleged activities in the video warranted a police investigation on orders of Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo for a charge of “defrauding under false pretences.”

The probe finally led to the dissolution of the Nyantakyi-led GFA administration, with a normalisation committee taking over in the interim until substantive executives were elected.
