Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Epixode has sparked a conversation about the challenges faced by Ghanaian musicians, adding that artistes like Nigeria’s Tems might not have achieved success if they were based in Ghana.

Speaking on Hitz FM on June 5, 2025, Epixode called for greater support and acceptance of diverse musical genres within Ghana.

He noted that while Ghana boasts over 600 indigenous sounds beyond highlife, many of these genres struggle for recognition and support.

“For the acceptance of our sound globally, we all can help in projecting the Ghanaian sound. It’s not only highlife that we have. I went to the UK and the people there were just vibing to the songs; they don’t even understand. So when we come back home and our people understand, I feel like the energy has to be more, the acceptance has to be there,” Epixode stated.

He further commented on the differences between Ghana’s music industry and that of Nigeria, stating that some Nigerian artistes would have struggled if they were in Ghana.

“I’m not trying to compare, but looking at the space or a platform or an industry like the Nigerian music industry, somebody like Tems, they will go hungry till they die if they were in Ghana here,” he remarked.

Epixode also mentioned Ghanaian artistes such as Cina Soul, Adomaa, and Worlasi, suggesting that talents of their caliber often go underappreciated in the local industry.
