Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has assured stakeholders that the OlympAfrica community sports development project, sited at Amasaman, will receive some immediate attention.

He said this will ensure its completion for effective use by the community and the youth.

The GOC president made this statement during a working visit with members of the GOC board to the OlympAfrica site.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the state of the facility and engage in discussions on strategies for its development.

During the tour, the GOC Executive Board had the opportunity to witness firsthand the potential of the OlympAfrica project in promoting sports development in Ghana.

President Akpokavie, who was worried about the neglect of the site and the slow pace of development since the acquisition in 2010, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, reaffirming the GOC’s commitment to its completion.

The GOC President was clear that the institution alone cannot undertake the project, but highlighted the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in enhancing youth training and sports development in local communities.

He emphasised that the OlympAfrica project has the potential to serve as a hub for identifying and nurturing young sporting talent in Ghana.

The GOC board were with great anxiety and took a resolve for a significant step towards the quality development of the site to realise the full potential of the OlympAfrica project.

The GOC has committed to the project’s success with an expedited action, expected to have a positive impact on sports development in Ghana, particularly in the Amasaman locality.

Beyond the community development initiative, the GOC aims to provide opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills and compete at the highest levels, thus creating an enabling environment for national teams camping at the facility.

“The OlympAfrica project will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sports in Ghana, and the GOC is dedicated to its successful completion through the strategic and aggressive engagement with corporate institutions”, GOC president said.
