The Beverage Consumers and Bar Owners Association of Ghana has issued a directive requesting that all bars and taverns stay closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day in an effort to maintain transparency and orderliness during the impending general elections.

Because alcohol can impair judgment, cause disruptive behavior, and raise the probability of ballots being rejected at polling places, the Association works to prevent drinking before voting.

The Association stressed the significance of preserving a calm and concentrated atmosphere during the election process in a statement signed by President Moses Onyah.

“As part of our responsibility to ensure a transparent and peaceful environment ahead of the 7th December elections, we, the beverage consumers and bar owners of Ghana, request that all bar owners and bartenders refrain from opening their establishments, including pubs, bars, and blue kiosks, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 7th December 2024,” the statement says.

The Association emphasized that this step is required to keep voters from getting drunk before casting their ballots, which could lead to ballots being rejected and disrupting the election process.

In order to guarantee a calm, transparent, and orderly election, the group also urged bar owners and patrons to support this move.
