The Member of Parliament for the Jirapa Constituency in the Upper West Region, Cletus Seidu Dapilah, has expressed his full support for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s endorsement of Alban Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament.
Dapilah praised Bagbin’s leadership qualities, describing him as courageous, meticulous, and a leader who cannot be easily controlled.
This follows President-elect Mahama’s official directive to the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to nominate The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament.
The decision comes after consultations with the NDC leadership and highlights Bagbin’s distinguished service to Parliament.
Bagbin, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Nadwoli and held roles as both Minority and Majority Leader, most recently served as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
His extensive experience and leadership capabilities have earned him the confidence of the President-elect, who believes Bagbin’s stewardship will help strengthen Parliament’s role in overseeing and advancing Ghana’s democratic and legislative progress.
Reacting to Mahama’s endorsement on GHOne TV, Dapilah expressed his approval, noting that Bagbin’s leadership qualities are the very traits that any leader should embody.
He emphasized that Bagbin’s bold and decisive nature made him an exemplary figure in Ghanaian politics.
He said, “Alban Bagbin has qualities you cannot take away from him, and those are the qualities every leader should possess. He is bold, very courageous, meticulous, and decisive. He is not the kind of leader you can push around; it’s not in his nature. He has been through the fire.”
