In a gesture of political maturity and unity, H.E. Alan Kyerematen, Leader and Presidential Candidate of the Afrafranto Alliance in the just-ended presidential election, led the Alliance’s leadership to pay a courtesy call on President Elect H.E. John Dramani Mahama today, December 20, 2024 at his office.

Following an earlier congratulatory press release by Alan Kyerematen, this visit was to present the entire ARC in person to was to commend Mr. Mahama on his victory and foster a collaborative approach to national development.

The interaction highlighted mutual respect and a shared commitment to Ghana’s progress.

In his remarks, Alan Kyerematen emphasized the two areas of interest to the Afrafranto Alliance in terms of governance. He first spoke to a government of national unity, meant to reduce excessive partisanship, curb the practice of abandoned government projects and also exclusion of talents.

Mr Kyerematen’s second plank was the need to move from IMF interventions to sustainable development based on the Great Transformation Plan (GTP).

Essentially, Hon Kyerematen decried partisanship and advised President Elect Mahama to focus on stabilization of the macro economy, invest in the real sector, especially industrialization, agriculture and tourism to create jobs. He also advised on a vigorous fight against corruption and GALAMSEY.

In response, H.E. John Mahama praised Alan Kyerematen, referring to him as a political heavyweight with a visionary approach to national issues. The President Elect expressed regret over the internal politics of the ruling NPP that culminated in Alan’s departure but extended his well wishes to the Party.

Furthermore, He noted that the NDC shares similar aspirations as outlined in the GTP and acknowledged its transformative potential. Mr. Mahama candidly admitted that any ideas borrowed from the GTP would be credited to Alan.

On the pressing issue of galamsey, Mr. Mahama admitted the existence of sound policies and regulations but highlighted challenges with implementation. He underscored that political interference has exacerbated the problem, making it harder to address. Both leaders agreed on the urgent need for genuine and sustained efforts to end galamsey, given its devastating environmental and economic impact.

The meeting showcased a rare moment of political civility and cooperation. Alan Kyerematen’s vision of fostering unity through constructive engagement was well-received by the former president, who concurred that Ghana’s development should transcend partisan interests. The two leaders exchanged insights on addressing the nation’s pressing challenges through a harmonious approach.

As a gesture of collaboration and shared commitment, Alan Kyerematen presented a copy of his Great Transformational Plan to H.E. Mahama. This act symbolized a readiness to share innovative strategies and knowledge to enhance national progress. Alan expressed hope that the GTP would inspire collective efforts in addressing Ghana’s socioeconomic challenges.

The visit left political observers impressed by the level of maturity displayed by the two leaders. It underscored Alan Kyerematen’s inclusive governance vision under the Afrafranto Alliance while setting a tone of mutual respect and cooperation that could redefine Ghana’s political discourse.
