Akufo-Addo is seen here with his ADC behind him

Four days after the Aide-de-Camp of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had a medical emergency during the Head of State’s last presentation of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament, he has been spotted back at post.

The incident, where the ADC, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed while at his post, in standing position, behind the president, led to a lot of conversations across the country, as well as online.

According to many people, the incident exposed the lapses in the medical emergency response measures in the country.

Although little updates were provided on the condition of the military bodyguard of President Akufo-Addo, he has been spotted in a video shared by Citi FM 97.3 on X.

In the video, which captured the moment the service chiefs of the Ghana Armed Forces, led by the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, paid a last courtesy visit to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the ADC was seen hearty and fully back at post.

At one point in the video, he was seen walking into the meeting room with President Akufo-Addo, while in another shot, he was captured seated as the CDS led his team to congratulate the president on his work in the last 8 years.

What happened to Presidential ADC Col Amponsah?

On Friday, January 3, 2025, GhanaWeb reported that Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the personal security guard cum Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, collapsed in Parliament.

The unfortunate incident occurred during the president’s final State of the Nation Address.

Colonel Amponsah, who has been serving as the President’s ADC since February 2023, reportedly suffered a medical emergency while the President was addressing Parliament.

In February 2023, Colonel Amponsah replaced Major-General Bismark Onwona, who was reassigned to the Army Headquarters as Commandant of the Training and Doctrine Command at the Ghana Armed Forces.

Prior to his appointment as ADC, Colonel Amponsah served as the Chief Instructor at the Military Training Academy and was stationed at the Defence Intelligence Unit at General Headquarters.

Colonel Amponsah, who had previously served in various senior positions, had been promoted to the rank of Colonel before his appointment as ADC to the President.

GhanaWeb confirmed that Colonel Amponsah later regained consciousness and was seen being escorted out of the chamber.
