Former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was slammed for ordering chiefs to stand to greet him

Some social media users have criticized former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following the circulation of a viral video featuring President John Dramani Mahama.

In the video, Mahama, during a Thank-You tour in the Volta Region, is seen asking chiefs who stood to greet him to remain seated as he continued to exchange pleasantries with them.

The video, which has sparked discussions online, has drawn comparisons between Mahama and Akufo-Addo’s interactions with traditional leaders.

Specifically, some users referenced an earlier incident involving Akufo-Addo, where he ordered chiefs to stand before greeting them.

One social media user commented, “Akufo would definitely order the chiefs to stand up and greet him. This short man really chopped power.”

Another wrote, “The difference between President John Mahama and Akufo-Addo is that John Mahama wants to serve, while the other wants to be served.”

“Unlike Akufo-Addo, President Mahama never asked chiefs in the Volta Region to rise and greet him. JDM actually signaled the chiefs to remain seated. NO MORE ARROGANCE OF POWER!!!”

The contrast in leadership styles has fueled discussions, with some users suggesting that the chiefs appreciated Mahama’s gesture and may have been offended by Akufo-Addo’s earlier actions.

“Mahama asks chiefs to sit and greet, whereas Akufo-Addo asked them to stand and greet. Apparently, this difference in treatment upset the chiefs, leading them to support John Mahama over Dr. Bawumia. I’d love to see Dr. @MBawumia’s street smarts in action!”

Another remarked, “Finally, Ghana now has a president who will not be ordering chiefs from the Volta Region to get up on their feet before he greets them. God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong.”

“My believe that John will do better stems from this very gesture. The blueprint of how not to govern a nation has been laid out by Nana Addo, and I’m sure Mahama won’t repeat those mistakes. Long may this continue.”
