Veteran Ghanaian actor and TV personality Akwasi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, has criticized the state of Ghana’s education system. He argued that it continues to burden students with irrelevant content that fails to prepare them for real-life challenges.

Speaking on Adom TV, Akrobeto took aim at outdated teaching materials, singling out children’s rhymes that, in his view, serve no meaningful purpose in students’ development.

“You will go to school and be beaten to learn `a lion has a tail…’. So how will this improve our lives? It doesn’t help in any way so the teachers should rather teach relevant things,” he said.

He emphasized the need for educational reforms that prioritize practicality and relevance, especially in a society facing rapid economic and social transformation.

Reflecting on his own limited access to formal education, Akrobeto explained that his father’s financial difficulties prevented him from attending school.

“My father wasn’t having enough money that’s why I didn’t go to school,” he added.

Determined to give his children the opportunities he missed, Akrobeto said he made a deliberate choice to enrol them in reputable schools, recognizing that they may not inherit his artistic gifts.

“If I don’t enrol my children in school, they might not be lucky to have the talent I have. They will grow and insult me for not taking care of them. People will also criticise me that I didn’t take my children to school,” he said.
