Legal representatives for Nana Agradaa, who is currently serving a 15-year sentence, have filed a motion requesting the transfer of her ongoing civil defamation case to a court in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The application, according to her lawyers, is rooted in logistical challenges associated with transporting her from Nsawam Prison to the current court venue in Accra.
Speaking to the media on July 16, 2025, a lawyer representing gospel singer Empress Gifty confirmed that Agradaa’s legal team argued in court that the constant travel was a burden and interfered with proceedings.
“Today, Nana Agradaa’s lawyers came up with another application that the place she is being kept is too far from the court. So they appealed that the case be moved to a court in the Eastern Region… When the time comes, the court will hear that application,” he said.

Despite the motion, Empress Gifty’s legal team insists the distance from prison to court should not derail the case and have signaled their intent to challenge the transfer request. They further emphasized that the defamation suit is separate from the criminal matter that led to Agradaa’s incarceration.
“That issue was a criminal issue, this one is a civil issue, there is no jail time involved in this case,” the lawyer noted.
In May 2025, Empress Gifty filed a GH₵20 million lawsuit accusing Nana Agradaa of making obscene and defamatory remarks, including accusations of sexual misconduct and bestiality, during a live broadcast on social media.
Agradaa’s earlier attempt to have the case struck out was dismissed by the Tema High Court in June, which ordered her to pay GH₵6,000 in costs and allowed the case to proceed despite her imprisonment for fraud.
Nana Agradaa’s lawyers argued she is currently detained outside Accra, making it improper to proceed with the case in the Greater Accra Region. As a result, the court has postponed the hearing to September. pic.twitter.com/t3MSljxaTj
