Nana Agradaa has fired back at Empress Gifty’s legal team following claims that her lawyer failed to appear in court for their ongoing defamation case.

The high-profile trial, which was scheduled for June 11, 2025, at the Tema High Court, hit a snag when Empress Gifty’s counsel alleged that the defense failed to show up for a crucial hearing.

“Today, we wanted the court to move a motion on the interlocutory injunction to restrain the defendant from making statements that could affect the plaintiff [Empress Gifty]. Unfortunately, the defendant’s lawyer didn’t show up,” the plaintiff’s lawyer stated in a widely circulated video.

He also disclosed a pending motion to dismiss the lawsuit:
“Secondly, the lawyer for the defendant has filed an application to dismiss the suit, arguing that Agradaa only insulted Empress Gifty but did not defame her. However, we have also filed an affidavit asserting that Agradaa’s statements constitute defamation.”

In a swift and fiery response, Agradaa took to social media, offering her version of events. According to her, the blame lies not with her legal team, but with Gifty’s attorney.

She alleged that the opposing counsel failed to serve the necessary legal documents within the appropriate timeframe.

“That self-acclaimed lawyer was supposed to serve my lawyer seven days before our first court hearing, but he didn’t. When we arrived at court, the judge asked where my lawyer was, and after explaining that she was on her way, I was asked to go call her,” Agradaa recounted.

She added that the judge turned his attention to Gifty’s lawyer to confirm whether proper communication had occurred.

“The judge then questioned Empress Gifty’s lawyer about whether my lawyers had responded to him, and he confirmed that they had. However, when asked if he had responded to us, he admitted that the documents were still with the bailiff. He said he had only handed them over the previous day,” she asserted.

Agradaa continued her criticism. “We all know that serving a lawyer on very short notice isn’t proper. You didn’t serve us, but while granting interviews, you refused to admit that it was your fault.”

The back-and-forth stems from a simmering online conflict between the two public figures. Agradaa has made a series of derogatory remarks targeting Empress Gifty, often dragging her husband into the fray. Responding to this, Gifty filed a GH¢20 million defamation suit, escalating the feud from the digital realm to the courtroom.
