Guinness World Record contender, Afua Asantewaa

Ghanaian entrepreneur and former Guinness World Record contender Afua Asantewaa has officially begun her attempt to break the record for the ‘longest singing marathon by an individual’ for the second time.

The media personality announced her attempt on November 15, 2024, indicating that this attempt will take place in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

Much like her earlier attempt in December 2023, this second attempt is set for 105 hours in an attempt to beat the current record held by Sunil Waghmare of India.

The livestream of the attempt, which is available on Afua Asantewaa’s social media handles, shows her calmly singing along to various songs from a DJ and a live band.

Her second attempt has been met with encouragement from industry players and fans but mixed reactions on social media.

As her attempt is underway, Ghanaians are eagerly anticipating the outcome of this second attempt and whether she will be successful this time around.

Background

Afua Asantewaa initially attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘longest singing marathon by an individual’ in 2023.

The event, which took place from December 24 to 29, 2023, received massive support from Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

Although the event was conducted successfully, Afua was not officially recognised for the record.

According to Guinness World Records, her attempt was disqualified due to breaches of certain guidelines.
