Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin’s attacks on the judiciary could pose serious problems if left unchecked, according to Presidential Staffer and former CPP General Secretary Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah.

Speaking on TV3’s Big Issue on November 27, 2025, Jantuah said she was taken aback by the minority leader’s reaction to the Tamale High Court’s decision ordering a rerun of the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election.

She noted that the ruling was grounded in evidence, and questioned why a lawyer of Afenyo-Markins’ stature would resort to insults rather than address the substance of the judgement.

‘What kind of kangaroo court is this?’ – Minority reacts to Kpandai election rerun

“I’m shocked at the way Afenyo-Markin is carrying on. If nobody calls him to order, this will become very troubling. There was a ruling based on evidence. You’re a lawyer. Every judgement comes from the facts before the court. How then do you turn around and call it a ‘kangaroo’ decision?”

Jantuah insisted the court only acted on what was proven, pointing to irregularities such as the change of the collation centre and issues at some polling stations, which she described as clear misconduct.

The court, on November 24, 2025, upheld a petition brought by NDC candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who argued that the December 7, 2024 poll in Kpandai was compromised by irregularities. The judge ordered a rerun within 30 days, a ruling that has triggered pushback from the Minority.

Addressing journalists in Parliament on November 19, 2025, Afenyo-Markin launched a sweeping attack on the judiciary, accusing judges of serving political interests. He called the ruling “shameful” and claimed the bench was doing the bidding of its “paymasters.”

“The judiciary must know that their actions and inactions… have the tendency to destroy our peaceful republic. We are ready for any so-called contempt. The world will witness their disgraceful conduct,” he told reporters.
