Former Black Stars striker Kwesi Appiah has revealed that the standout moment of his career was finding out he was in the starting XI for Ghana during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

At 34, Kwesi Appiah is in his 19th season in Europe, having started his professional career at just 16. He has played for several clubs, most notably Crystal Palace, where he spent two seasons with the Eagles.

Appiah, who earned seven caps and an AFCON silver with the Black Stars, considers his debut the best moment of his career.

At 24, he got the chance to represent his motherland after being named in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the AFCON tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Appiah was included in the starting lineup when Ghana faced Guinea in the Round of 8, and for the Boreham Wood forward, that moment tops all others in his career. In an interview with Football Park, the former Ghanaian international revealed how highly he regards that day.

“If I could pinpoint one single moment, it was that day—finding out I was starting in that match we won 3-0. I scored the opening goal, which was instant gratification. I couldn’t think of a better experience in my career. That one moment was it,” he recalled.

Unfortunately, Kwesi Appiah didn’t have the AFCON trophy to crown his moment, as Ghana lost to Ivory Coast in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Despite not returning to the national team after 2019, Appiah has maintained his passion for the game and is currently excelling at Boreham Wood in the England National League.
