The African Centre for Technical Training (ACTT) has been named Overall Best TVET Provider (Pre-Tertiary Level 1st Runner-Up) at the 2026 Ghana TVET Excellence Awards organised by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
The awards ceremony, held in Accra last week, brought together key stakeholders in skills development under the theme: ‘Celebrating Outstanding Skills, Innovation and Industry Partnerships.’
ACTT’s recognition comes shortly after its Founder and President, Penelope Brooke Thompson, was honoured for promoting skills development at the 10th Ghana Women of Excellence Awards by Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
The TVET Excellence Awards, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and implemented by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana in partnership with CTVET, aim to celebrate institutions and individuals demonstrating excellence in technical and vocational education.
ACTT earned its award following a rigorous process involving jury assessment, field verification, and evaluation of institutional impact. The category recognises institutions that excel in training quality, innovation, infrastructure, industry collaboration, and learner outcomes.
The accolade highlights ACTT’s growing reputation for delivering demand-driven technical training that connects young people to employment opportunities. At a time of rising youth unemployment and skills shortages, the institution is positioning itself as a bridge between training and decent work.
As part of its expansion plans, ACTT is set to open a new campus in Kumasi, expected to increase its training capacity to about 4,500 learners annually. The centre is also seeking partnerships to introduce 12 new courses across artisanal, technical, and creative sectors.
Management says the long-term vision is to establish ACTT as a leading model for high-quality, locally driven TVET in Ghana, with the potential for replication across Africa.
