Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has issued a directive requiring that all newly filed cases and applications in the country’s superior courts be submitted to his office.

This initiative aims to streamline court processes and enhance efficiency.

Effective April 23, 2025, and communicated through the Deputy Judicial Secretary, the directive applies to registrars of the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Courts of Appeal.

The Chief Justice has mandated that all new cases, applications, and requests for hearing dates be submitted to a centralised unit for assignment and scheduling.

The goal of this move is to establish a more organized and transparent system for case allocation and hearing date management.

According to the memo, all fresh filings, whether applications or cases, must be submitted to the Acting Chief Justice to facilitate court assignments or to empanel judges when multiple courts are involved.

By centralising this process, the judiciary aims to reduce delays and promote fairness in the assignment of cases to judges.

This directive is expected to improve case management, decrease backlogs, and enhance accountability within the judicial system.

It also places the scheduling of hearing dates under the direct supervision of the Chief Justice.

Registrars across all courts have been instructed to comply with the new procedure, which will be closely monitored for effectiveness.

The memo emphasises that this approach replaces all previous guidelines regarding court assignments and hearing schedules and will remain in effect until further notice.

All court registrars nationwide are required to strictly adhere to this new order.
