The 2026 CAA African Senior Athletics Championships have been officially launched in a colourful ceremony at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking Ghana’s readiness to host one of the continent’s premier sporting events.
The launch event, held at the tennis court of the stadium, brought together key stakeholders in Ghana’s sports sector, including the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, and officials from the National Sports Authority and Ghana Olympic Committee.
Ghana is set to host the 24th edition of the championships from May 12 to 17, 2026, at the University of Ghana Stadium. According to the President of the Ghana Athletics Association, Bawa Fuseini, about 54 African countries are expected to participate.
Top athletes such as Faith Chepkoech and Beatrice Chebet are anticipated to compete, alongside strong relay teams from South Africa and Botswana.
Organizers say additional electronic timing equipment will be procured to meet international standards, aligning the event with benchmarks set by the World Athletics and the Olympic Games.
Over 100 trained technical officials are expected to officiate, as Ghana aims to deliver a seamless and world-class championship.
