In commemoration of World In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Day, Accra Fertility Center, a subsidiary of Medifem Multi-Specialist Hospital has launched a month-long awareness campaign to shed light on the realities of infertility, demystify the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and offering hope to individuals and couples through education, support, and access to affordable fertility care.

The World IVF Day is celebrated annually on 25th July to commemorate the birth of the first test tube baby, Louise Brown, in 1978 through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and this year, the Accra Fertility Center aims to provide the general public with free fertility consultations throughout the month, educational resources on fertility options and IVF processes and an open-house event to meet fertility specialists and tour the facility.

Speaking to the media on the campaign, the Chief Fertility specialist at Accra Fertility Center, Dr Joseph Homiah, stated “Trying to conceive should be a joyful and fulfilling journey.

Yet, for many couples, it can be filled with uncertainty, stress, and emotional challenges and that is why Accra Fertility Center is proud to stand in solidarity with the 1 in 8 couples worldwide affected by infertility”.

“Since the birth of the first IVF baby in 1978, over 10 million children have been born through IVF, proving that science and compassion together can create miracles, the process has brought unimaginable joy to families who otherwise may never have experienced parenthood.

“It is our mission to ensure that more people in Ghana and across the region have the opportunity to explore their fertility options in a supportive environment.” said Dr. Homiah.

Over the past few years, fertility treatments, particularly IVF, have become increasingly accessible and affordable.

However, barriers still exist, from financial constraints to lack of information and emotional support but the Accra Fertility Center is set to address these challenges with the launch of this campaign.

The Business Development Manager of Accra Fertility Center Mrs Sena Adjasi used the opportunity to extend a heartfelt invitation to individuals and couples facing fertility challenges to take full advantage of the center’s month-long campaign.

In her remarks, she made a clarion call to the public, saying “We warmly invite all individuals and couples who have questions or concerns about their fertility to visit us, you are not alone in this journey. There is support, there is help, and above all, there is hope.”

The campaign will not only highlight the science behind In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) but also create safe spaces for dialogue around infertility, stigma, and emotional well-being thereby contributing to giving voice to the emotional journey of those struggling with infertility.
