Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Education Committee, revealed that the government is processing GH25 million for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

WAEC has warned that delays in settling the government’s GH¢118 million debt could considerably delay the publishing of 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

Dr Apaak told Eyewitness News that while the payment is a great move, it falls short of addressing WAEC’s serious financial issues.

“The government has issued a cheque for GH¢25 million to WAEC, but the amount is GH¢118 million, so giving only GH¢25 million is clearly not even half of the debt.” It’s a drop in the ocean.

The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, informed the host of the Citi Breakfast Show, Bernard Avle, on Thursday that the GH¢25 million is needed to pay technicians so they can replace broken scanners, which are required to mark objective questions.
