Following the demise of Ghanaian Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, tension has emerged within the family.

It all started when the musician’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, filed an injunction against the final funeral rites, praying the Kumasi High Court to make her the sole individual permitted to perform widowhood rites, among other requests.

After that, several controversies arose, including the change of the late musician’s final burial date and his elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, invoking the Asantehene’s Ntam Kese against the abusuapayin.

In a recent development, abusuapayin Kofi Owusu, also known as Tupac, provided detailed information about the root of the controversies during an interview on UTV’s United Showbiz on November 15, 2025.

During the interview, Kofi Owusu attributed the genesis of the tensions to individuals close to Akosua Serwaa.

According to him, Akosua Serwaa initially had no issue with Odo Broni also performing widowhood rites at the late Lumba’s funeral until certain individuals influenced her with what he described as misguided counsel.

“I know that if Akosua Serwaa were in the country, she would have listened to us, but because she isn’t here, people are giving her the wrong information. Also, Priscilla (Odo Broni) is someone who listens to advice.

“…But there are two people, Papa Shee and Giga, who are corrupting their minds. They are very respectful women, but the people advising them are the ones causing all these issues,” he said.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the money generated during the late musician’s one-week observation, Kofi Owusu stated that allegations that he has been mismanaging the contributions are false.

According to him, “They are saying I have been squashing the money, but that is false. The floral contract they are accusing me of is a lie.

“I had no idea about the contract because Kwadwo Fosu’s children even signed the contract for GH¢50,000. All the money is in the bank, and because I don’t want to touch anything, I instructed that every amount be deposited.”

He also clarified reports regarding claims that he spent about GH¢28,000 on hotel lodging during the one-week celebration.

“Some people are saying I lodged at a hotel for GH¢28,000, but I slept there for one month and four days. I didn’t stay in Lumba’s house because his wives were there. I can’t use my own money because I went there for the funeral ceremony,” he added.
