The Ekuona Abusua of Paakoso has reportedly destooled their former family head, Mr. Victor Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Tupac, bringing an end to months of controversy, internal conflict and public embarrassment surrounding the leadership of the respected clan.

In a press release issued on March 12, 2026, the elders and representatives of the Ekuona Abusua announced that the decision was taken on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at exactly 11:55 a.m., after extensive consultations and repeated attempts to resolve disputes internally.

The family explained that Mr. Owusu was stripped of all authority as Abusuapanin of the Paakoso clan after he failed to honour multiple invitations to appear before the elders to address serious concerns affecting the unity and dignity of the family.

According to the statement, the former family head was invited four separate times to participate in family deliberations but deliberately refused to attend.

The elders further accused him of insulting and disrespecting senior members of the family, behaviour they described as undermining the sacred authority of the Abusua.

Background…

Following the death of the music icon Daddy Lumba on July 26, 2025, a bitter dispute broke out within the family over who had the authority to organise the burial and control aspects of the funeral arrangements.

As Abusuapanin, Kofi Owusu insisted he had the mandate to lead the process and even announced a burial date despite resistance from other factions of the family.

The disagreement escalated into legal battles, with members of the musician’s maternal family filing an injunction at the Accra High Court to stop the burial. The court subsequently halted the planned funeral and directed that all parties meet to resolve the conflict before any burial could proceed.

Tensions continued to rise afterwards, drawing the attention of traditional authorities and even the Manhyia Palace, where the family head was reportedly fined two sheep after the invocation of the Great Oath of the Asantehene, a serious traditional procedure used in disputes within the Ashanti Kingdom.
