Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has responded to allegations that he secretly withdrew GH¢30,000 from the funeral account.

Speaking on United Showbiz on November 15, 2025, he firmly denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the money was used strictly for funeral-related expenses and not for personal gain.

According to him, the financial burden of the ongoing funeral preparations has been heavy, especially as the family awaits contributions from the government and other supporters.

“When the money was sent, no one took a penny from it. I’ve been praying that we will get enough money for the funeral. Even though the president might help but since he has not brought his contributions yet, you have to put in your money, that’s if you have,” he said.

He emphasised that his actions were guided by responsibility and transparency, adding that elders of the family were fully aware of every transaction.

“I told the elders that we should take part of the money and give the women as their feeding money because the whole thing is delaying. We shared the money among both women equally,” he explained.

Addressing comments made by Prophet Kumchacha, who earlier accused him of taking the GH¢30,000 for personal use, Abusuapanin Owusu expressed disappointment and urged him to be cautious with his public statements.

“Kumchacha should watch his tongue when speaking. Why would he say I’ve taken GH¢30,000 as if I’m going to spend it? If he doesn’t understand something, he should ask questions instead of mentioning my name all the time and I don’t like it. Managing things is not easy and I’m sure he knows it because he claims to be a pastor,” he stated.

Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu further stated that he has worked for 23 years and owns enough property to sustain himself, adding that accusations of stealing funeral funds are completely unnecessary.

“I’ve worked for good 23 years, by God’s grace, I also have enough properties which can sustain my family. I am an Abusuapanin. I am holding the title because I am not a thief and I’m responsible,” he shared.

He admitted that the funeral preparations have drained him emotionally and financially, but expressed relief that the Asantehene has now stepped in to help streamline the process.

“This funeral has drained me and I’m getting fed up. It’s better that Nana has also intervened and I’m happy he’s now a part of this,” he added.
