New Black Queens forward, Abigail Kofi Kim, has set her sights on making history with the team after making her senior debut for Ghana in their recent 3-3 draw with Côte d’Ivoire on Friday, May 30, 3035.
The dynamic forward, who was born in Liberia and raised in the United States, joined the national team for the first time ahead of the friendly and is already dreaming big.
Kim, 26, was handed her maiden call-up following a stellar season with Fomget GSK in the Turkish Women’s League, where she scored 17 goals and contributed 10 assists, playing a vital role in helping the club secure the league title.
Her performances caught the attention of Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who added her to the squad as the Black Queens ramp up preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking after her debut, in an interview with the team’s media, Kim expressed her excitement at joining the team and shared her ambitions with Ghana’s senior women’s side.
“It’s exciting, and I’m looking forward to getting started with the team. They’ve been welcoming, and everyone seems lovely and nice. If we all work together and follow the coach’s instructions, we can achieve great things. My hope is to win WAFCON and then qualify for the World Cup,” she said.
The forward, who previously featured for the United States at U-18, U-20, and U-23 levels, now wears the Ghanaian colours with pride and is determined to help the Black Queens return to the top of African football.
The closest Ghana has come to WAFCON glory was in 2006, when they finished as runners-up after losing to rivals Nigeria in the final.
Since then, the Black Queens have been determined to reclaim their place at the top of African women’s football.
With a powerful blend of experience, skill, and fresh hunger, Abigail Kim is poised to become a key figure in Ghana’s WAFCON campaign and possibly lead them to their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification.
As the team continues to gel ahead of the tournament, fans will be hoping Kim’s goal-scoring form and infectious energy will be a difference-maker in the Black Queens’ resurgence on the continental and global stage.
