Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has issued an official statement addressing concerns surrounding his recent comments on athlete preparation, following his participation in the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

In a press release issued by Sports & Business Transformation Ltd. dated May 4, 2026, Saminu explained that his remarks were motivated by a deep desire to see improvements in athlete preparation and performance. He emphasized that his intention was to contribute positively to Ghana’s athletics development and not to create controversy.

The statement acknowledged that some of his earlier comments may have been misunderstood, leading to a confrontation with media personnel. However, it noted that Saminu has since clarified his position to the appropriate stakeholders and expressed regret over any unintended reactions.

According to the release, the issues raised by the athlete have now been addressed effectively by the relevant authorities, aligning with his original intent.

Looking ahead, Saminu called on fans and stakeholders to support him as he continues to represent Ghana. He expressed appreciation for the encouragement he has received and urged the public to rally behind him as he prepares for upcoming competitions, including the African Senior Athletics Championship.
