Takyie Addo, Head of Communications for the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association

Takyie Addo, Head of Communications for the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, has announced that the Association will no longer support or participate in any activities organised by the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA).

Addressing the media on November 14, 2025, Addo expressed strong dissatisfaction with GUTA’s recent actions, particularly the inauguration of a new GUTA President without extending an invitation to the leadership of the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association.

He stated that although GUTA is regarded as the mother association of trader groups in Ghana, it has increasingly taken major decisions without consulting or informing the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, one of the largest and most influential business bodies in the country.

According to him, this exclusion raises serious concerns among stakeholders.

In response to what he described as “a pattern of disregard and marginalisation”, Addo said the Association has decided to “distance itself from all GUTA activities and decisions until its role and relevance are duly recognised.”

He warned that the absence of input from key stakeholder groups such as the Abbossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association could undermine GUTA’s ability to take effective, inclusive, and representative decisions.

Addo further stressed that the Association would only reconsider its position if GUTA’s leadership demonstrates respect and a willingness to engage them meaningfully in decision-making processes.

He concluded by emphasising that cooperation, inclusiveness and mutual respect are essential for a productive partnership between GUTA and its member associations.
