Black Queens players celebrating their victory over Algeria

Ghanaians were filled with joy following the Black Queens’ qualification to the semi-final of the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The queens stood the ground as the Algerians’ defensive resilience came into play and avoided conceding.

Despite dominating the game throughout, they could not find the back of the net after extra time.

Ghana had an excellent penalty shoot-out, winning 4-2 to progress to the semi-final in a thrilling fashion.

They will face host nation Morocco in the semi-final stage on July 22, 2025.

The qualification triggered celebrations from scores of Ghanaians on social media as they hailed them for advancing to the semi-final stage for the first time since 2016.

Some attributed the feat to the exploits of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Dramani Mahama’s watch, saying ‘Aban papa aba’, meaning a good government has come.

Other football fans noted that with the team’s performance improving with each game, the Black Queens will go all the way to the final and clinch the trophy.

Some fans commended Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams for their support as well.

The Black Queens will face a tough test as they come up against the host nation, who have been impressive in the tournament.
