Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has opened up about how she was bullied by a teacher and her classmates during her school years.

In an interview on the Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso, she narrated how she had always aspired to work in the media. However, her dreams faced a hurdle after a teacher once told her she was “too black” to be a TV presenter, a comment that deeply affected her self-esteem for many years.

Yaa Yeboah recounted an incident with her Twi teacher at Achimota Preparatory School after she had given a speech.

“We had gone to another school, and I had read a poem. When I got backstage, she pulled me aside and told me, ‘You shouldn’t be in a hurry to be in the midst of people. You are not too beautiful; you can never be a TV presenter. You are too black to be on TV,'” she recalled.

This, along with similar comments from classmates, made her feel unattractive and undermined her confidence.

She explained that during her school years, being light-skinned was considered the beauty standard, which further contributed to her lack of confidence. She also faced bullying from her peers, which led her to frequently engage in fights as a means of defending herself.

“I was bullied by my classmates. Throughout school, I never felt pretty. So I used to fight a lot because that was the only language I understood. If anyone tried to come at me, I would beat that person up,” she disclosed.

Despite these hurdles, MC Yaa Yeboah is now a successful TV and radio presenter, voice-over artist, and MC.
