Deaconess Abokomah is a Ghanaian content creator

Cross-dressed content creator Ebenezer Arthur, known within the creative space as Deaconess Abokomah, said he once received a threat from someone who vowed to “deal with him” if the Anti-Gay Bill was passed by Ghana’s Parliament.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, he said his style of comedy, built around cross-dressing, has not been without criticism.

He noted that some social media users attack him for what they perceive as immoral behaviour.

“It’s the work we do. The outfits fit the characters we portray. Once the cameras go off, we return to our real lives. It’s strictly for entertainment,” he explained.

Despite taking most of the online trolling in stride, the comedian said the negativity occasionally spills over into real life when someone once threatened to deal with him.

“A guy once warned me in Takoradi, saying, ‘Wait for the bill to pass in Parliament and you’ll see what I’ll do to you.’ I just ignored him and walked away. Sometimes we get insults in the comments too, on our social media pages but I have learned to focus on the positive side,” he recounted.

He added, “My mom gave me different clothes to wear but anytime I try to change, fans ask me to go back to the old ones. They’re all GTP and that brand reminds people of our mothers. So, I kept it as my identity,” he shared.

According to Deaconess, beyond the jokes and skits, he has a purpose for spreading joy and wholesome entertainment.

“People should understand that we are here to entertain. My videos are family-friendly and carry moral lessons. I want people to laugh, feel happy and maybe even forget their worries for a while,” he said.
