Team Lead at Image Bureau, George Quaye, has mentioned that art is what gives a nation its identity, and any country that won’t invest in its creative arts is not worth dying for.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the Ghana Theatre Festival 2025, Quaye explained that art is not just about entertainment but the essence of national identity. He argued that without it, Ghana would have no real sense of self.

To drive home his point, Quaye pointed to the very symbols that define Ghana. The national anthem, the flag, and monuments like the Independence Square and the Arch, he said, are all products of artistic expression.

Ghana’s movie industry is never a waste of time so stop comparing it with Nigeria – George Quaye

According to him, these are the elements that give Ghanaians a collective identity, reminding them of who they are and where they come from.

He noted that without these creative works, Ghana would be left with nothing to inspire its people.

Quaye also placed Ghana’s situation in a global context, pointing to countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, and the United States.

He explained, these nations are recognized around the world because of how they project their arts and culture.

“Any country that is not willing to project its art and invest heavily in it is probably not worth dying for. Because without the art, we have nothing as a people. When you look from everything that makes us Ghanaian, from our national anthem, to our national flag, to everything, the Independence Square, the Arc, everything that we have, are all symbols of artistic expressions…

“If you take it even beyond Ghana and you look global, countries that have done very well like Dubai, UAE, USA, everything you know about them is through their arts and that is why an initiative like this ought to have a lot of government support and funding,” George Quaye said.
