Ghanaian gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has weighed in on a viral video that has sparked nationwide discussion, in which a man was seen assaulting his wife.

In a video shared online on November 20, 2025, Ohemaa Mercy condemned the act, adding that the Ghana Police Service should sentence the man, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, to life imprisonment.

She explained that John Odartey Lamptey’s actions are unpardonable and that he deserves to rot in jail.

“This is the kind of man who has to be sentenced to life imprisonment. The police shouldn’t let him go scot-free. I have never commented on any issue on social media before, but as for this one, I couldn’t sleep.

“The only prayer I am praying is that every woman who is going through so much, may heaven give you the strength to come out,” she said.

Ohemaa Mercy also noted that women experiencing similar ordeals should not hide behind societal expectations and continue to endure such torture.

According to her, the devil often uses men like John Odartey Lamptey to destroy the lives of innocent women; therefore, it is her greatest wish that anyone going through similar trauma will speak up.

“Those Christian women in their rooms going through the same in the name of what God and society will say, shame on you. Because the devil can place your life in a human being who will destroy you. He will kill you,” she added.
