    State Funeral Date For Ghana’s Former First Lady Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Announced

    The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra. The event will take place under the auspices of President John Mahama.

    According to a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the state funeral is a tribute to Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings’ lifelong work in promoting the rights of women and children in Ghana, as well as her contributions to national development.

    Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76. Her death prompted a nationwide outpouring of grief, with tributes coming from political leaders, civil society organizations, and ordinary Ghanaians who remembered her as a tireless advocate for women’s empowerment and a pioneering figure in public service.

    Following her death, Parliament suspended its proceedings in her honour, while the family appealed for privacy during the mourning period.

    In a statement shared on the page of her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, the family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the public for their support:

    “The Agyeman-Rawlings and allied families express their profound gratitude to the people of Ghana and friends around the world for the overwhelming outpouring of love and sympathy following the sudden passing of Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

    Individuals, groups, and institutions wishing to submit tributes in honor of the late former First Lady may do so via email at TRIBUTES@NANAKONADU.ORG
    . Friends and well-wishers are encouraged to share how she impacted their lives, including digital photographs, videos, and memories. Please include your name and contact number. Hard-copy tributes and photos may be delivered to Trudy at the Office of Former President Rawlings, No. 1 Sekou Toure Link, Ridge, near Ridge Hospital.

    Kindly submit these tributes within two weeks of this announcement. Enquiries may be directed to 027 6500 008. The family deeply appreciates your prayers, kind words, and continued support during this difficult time.”
