Anthony Nukpenu (L) says Kwaku Addo does not deserve to be an MP if the claims against him are true Anthony Nukpenu (L) says Kwaku Addo does not deserve to be an MP if the claims against him are true

The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has descended on the party’s Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, over the attack on a team from the National Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Ahafo Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV on November 4, 2025, Anthony Nukpenu described the MP as an “idiot” who does not deserve a seat in Parliament if he truly interfered with the work of the NAIMOS team.

He added that the MP’s alleged actions, if proven true, would amount to a contravention of the orders of the President, John Dramani Mahama.

“If really that Member of Parliament was at the post, then he is an idiot. He does not deserve a seat in Parliament; he doesn’t.

“As a Member of Parliament, you know the actions of your president, and the president’s power is operating in an area — you go there not to help them, but you aid your youth to overcome them; you have overcome the state. It is only an idiot who can do that. He deserves no seat in Parliament,” Nukpenu fumed.

He further added that, “And if that Speaker does not take action from today, I don’t know the country we are building.”

The NDC organiser urged the Speaker of Parliament to suspend the MP and call for a probe to determine whether he is complicit in the allegations levelled against him.

    About the attack:

According to a report by journalist and activist Erastus Asare Donkor, ten military officers who are members of the National Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), led by their Director of Operations, conducted an operation in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

During the operation, the NAIMOS Director reportedly received information that an excavator was being used for illegal mining along the roadside near Branikrom. The team moved to the area and arrested several illegal miners, including a Burkinabé national.

Erastus Asare Donkor further stated that the NAIMOS team requested the presence of the site owner at the location where the mining activities were taking place.

He added that an individual later arrived, identifying himself as a Defence Intelligence (DI) representative from the Ahafo Region, followed by another person who reportedly claimed to be the site owner.

A search conducted by the NAIMOS team at the site led to the discovery of various types of ammunition, as well as cash and mobile phones.

The Ghana Police Service has since invited the Asutifi North MP for questioning over the incident. He has, however, denied allegations that he incited a mob or obstructed the NAIMOS team to secure the release of persons arrested by the military officers.
