The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, says the government has submitted the report on election-related violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the Attorney General’s Department for further action.

He explained that the Attorney General will study the findings and give legal advice, including compensation measures for families of people who died or suffered injuries during the incidents.

The report was prepared by a special task force set up by the Inspector-General of Police to investigate all cases of violence that occurred during the two elections, especially those that led to loss of lives.

According to the Minister, the task force identified 12 major cases across several regions, which resulted in 15 deaths and more than 40 injuries.

The investigations also led to the opening of new case dockets and the arrest of some suspects.

Mr. Muntaka said the government is committed to ensuring justice and accountability, and will work to prevent such incidents from happening again in future elections.

He urged the public to support the authorities with information to help resolve any outstanding cases, stressing that peaceful elections are key to protecting Ghana’s democracy.
